THE MOVIVIO MOVING GUIDE

Your moving house checklist.

Start with what is moving, then work through access, packing and handover. Use this checklist as a flexible plan: some arrangements will depend on your tenancy, completion date or building rules.

When you start planning

  • Create a room-by-room inventory, including the loft, shed, garage and garden.
  • Decide what will stay, be sold or be given away before the move.
  • Measure large furniture and check doorways, stairs and lift dimensions.
  • Request a quote with both postcodes, the expected date and any flexibility.
  • Identify packing, dismantling or special handling you need to discuss.

Before you agree the booking

Check the price against the inventory and the actual access at each address. Confirm the crew, included work, timings and relevant terms. Keep a written record of what has been agreed.

Check loading arrangements with the building manager or relevant parking authority where needed. Arrange any building access or lift slot and tell the mover about restrictions. Do not assume a visitor parking space can accommodate the moving vehicle.

As you pack

  • Label boxes with the destination room and a brief description of the contents.
  • Keep box weights manageable and protect fragile pieces individually.
  • Keep screws and fittings in labelled bags with the furniture they belong to.
  • Separate documents, medication, keys and valuables to carry with you.
  • Set aside an essentials box with chargers, toiletries, bedding and drinks.

In the final days

Confirm the address details, arrival arrangements and contact numbers. Tell the moving team if the load or access has changed. Check when keys will be available and make a plan for any gap between leaving and entering the properties.

Prepare appliances according to their manufacturer instructions and arrange any specialist disconnection you need. Keep your packing materials and unfinished jobs out of the access route. Plan who will look after children or pets while belongings are being carried.

On moving day

  • Keep entrances, stairs and walking routes clear.
  • Walk through the agreed inventory and flag anything staying behind.
  • Photograph meter readings and keep important handover details accessible.
  • Check cupboards, loft spaces and outbuildings before returning keys.
  • Direct large furniture to the correct rooms and check the agreed items have arrived.

After you arrive

Unpack essentials first and check belongings as you go. Raise any concerns promptly using the process agreed with your mover. Keep your quote and booking details until everything is settled.

Update the organisations that need your new address and arrange your household services. If the move is still ahead of you, use the quote form to discuss the inventory, access and preparation help you need.
