1. The load and the vehicle
Bedroom count is a starting point, but two homes of the same size can hold very different amounts. A room-by-room furniture list and approximate number of boxes give a better picture of space and handling needs. Include garage, loft and garden contents.
Identify large or heavy pieces individually. Their dimensions, weight and whether they come apart can influence the vehicle, crew and preparation. Do not rely on a photograph alone to communicate the whole load.
2. Travel and time at each address
Give full collection and delivery postcodes, plus any additional stops. The job includes loading and unloading as well as driving, so a short local journey does not necessarily mean a short job.
Stairs, lift availability, long corridors and the distance to parking all affect carrying time. If access will be ready only after a key handover or seller appointment, explain that in the enquiry.
3. Crew, packing and preparation
The amount of lifting help should match the items and access. Say if you need the crew to do all carrying, and highlight anything too bulky or heavy for ordinary handling.
Packing, materials, dismantling and reassembly should be itemised when requested. Confirm what you will prepare yourself and what you expect from the moving team. Appliance preparation and technical work should be discussed explicitly.
4. Date changes and extra time
Tell us your preferred day and any flexibility, including whether the date is provisional. If you need a fixed collection slot or an out-of-hours business move, put that requirement in the initial enquiry.
Before booking, ask what happens if keys are delayed, the inventory increases, another stop is added or access is different from the description. Get the treatment of additional time and changes clear in advance.
Compare the whole quote
- The same inventory, addresses and access assumptions.
- The number of movers and the lifting included.
- A fixed price or time-based charge, with any minimum period.
- Packing materials, assembly, travel and any other chargeable extras.
- Any applicable tax, waiting-time terms, cancellation terms, cover and exclusions.
